Exploring with hydrostone and creating carved paintings - reliefs.
Great event - lots of buzz and energy at the opening. Convergence and The Offering both sold the first night.
Pieces are finished and to be delivered. See you at the Hive Emporium for this exciting show!! The last few months has been filled with the development of new approaches with cast sculptures, wall panels and the combining of stone, wood and various media.
Two pieces have survived the process. Lumina is a cast sculpture with light and vibrant color. Standing Rock - Water for Life, is a combination of stone, wood, metal, marble chips, resin and pigments. These pieces and the new processes have opened the door to a flood of imagery that twist and flow through my mind. I’m excited to begin on my next project which is a new series of vibrantly colored canvas paintings and relief cast panels. So here we sit sipping coffee in our studio by the fire, surrounded by a winter wonderland and upon reflecting on the season I realize that this time of year is difficult for many. There is sadness and loss pressed up against the excitement and joy which makes for a vivid contrast of emotions. I look up at my recent piece, Ocean and I realize that this is what I’m looking to capture in my next pieces – the contrast – the light that glows in the surrounding darkness. Noella and I are so very thankful to be in this wonderful community of artists, and to experience and be part of the support of fellow artists, family, friends, and patrons. We wish you peace, love and vibrant health this holiday season and many blessings in the new year. Best, Steve and Noella http://mcmillanartscentre.com/fibre-wood-and-stone-dec-exhibits/
The Fibre, Wood and Stone exhibit at the McMillan Arts Centre in Parksville opens this Saturday December 3rd. The reception is from 1-3 pm. I will be there along with 14 other Vancouver Island artists invited to be part of this exciting show. A wonderful turnout for the tour. Thanks for everyone braving the rains and for the pieces that found their new home, - may they bring you much joy!
